  • GWEN is The ‘Global Women’s Empowerment Network’ They are a non profit based in the USA whose mission is

‘To bring hope, inspiration and powerful tools that will empower women to live a life beyond abuse’

GWEN have developed a very useful free phone application that enables women (and other people) who are being attacked to text help to their selection of their five closest friends just by the push of a button. The video above talks about using the app for people you may meet through online dating but I think that its a useful and possibly life saving app to have on your phone when just going about your daily business.

Check out www.gwennetwork.org for further information about how to download the app

  • ‘Cura’ helps you look after the people you care about by setting free the power of community.

Cura is a free tool which enables family members, friends, neighbours or a community to share the care and support of a loved one. It does this by making their care ‘social’ so that everyone can securely see the tasks that have been done, the tasks others have accepted and the tasks that are still outstanding.

In this way a group of carers can have a better understanding of the whole care needs of an individual and the important role individual carers can play in their support sometimes just by carrying out very simple tasks.

Six million people in the UK are caring right now and without the right support, caring can quickly take its toll on your finances, your health, your career, your family and your social life. Yet without unpaid carers the UK would be left facing an £119 billion care bill it simply could not afford.

  • You Tube beauty make up star Lauren Luke has created a make up video explaining how victims of domestic violence hide what is happening to them. The video which is part of the #dontcoveritup campaign was created for Refuge, a UK-based charity fighting domestic abuse against women and children.

1 in 4 women, including teenagers, experience domestic abuse, be it physical, emotional, psychological or financial. 65% of women hide evidence they’re experiencing domestic abuse.

If this is happening to you please seek some help.
