What will Charities and NGO’s do with Vine?

Twitter’s has just released a new iphone/IOS mobile video creation service, Vine, which has everyone tweeting their best six-second clips.
How could NGO’s and Charities make use of 6 seconds of video which you can attach to a tweet. Here are some ideas
1. New campaign awareness
2. Letting people know how they can help or volunteer
3. Getting supporters to tweet their support using a short video
4. Giving people short campaign updates via video
5. Those on fundraising challenges giving short video updates to the charity and to those who are supporting them along the way
6. Charity workers/supporters sending their M.P.’s or representatives calls to action about a particular issue or location of concern via video
7. Those who receive help from a charity using video to say thank you to those who have supported them
8. Sending short video content updates to media outlets that they can then use to publicise a campaign/protest/crisis or emergency as it’s happening
9 Letting people know about jobs/opportunities that a charity/NGO are trying to fill
10. Your Idea !

Can you Help Buy a New School Bus for Nepalese Children

Gerry Slater of the UK Charity The Himalayan Youth Foundation http://hyf-uk.org is looking for sponsors to support Nepalese children from rural and deprived communities through their education in Katmandu. The foundation currently provides a 100 bedded hostel which looks after the children’s living and educational costs, however currently the hostel is under capacity as more child sponsors are needed to fill the available spaces.
In the video below, Gerry explains how as well as supporting the children’s education, he is also raising funds for a new school bus to help transport the children to school.
If you think you can help or know someone who can, please share the link and get in touch with Gerry who gives his contact details at the end of the interview or via the foundations web site http://hyf-uk.org

GWEN is The ‘Global Women’s Empowerment Network’ They are a non profit based in the USA whose mission is
‘To bring hope, inspiration and powerful tools that will empower women to live a life beyond abuse’
GWEN have developed a very useful free phone application that enables women (and other people) who are being attacked to text help to their selection of their five closest friends just by the push of a button. The video above talks about using the app for people you may meet through online dating but I think that its a useful and possibly life saving app to have on your phone when just going about your daily business.
